About the CADRE Program. The CADRE Program provides research ethics training primarily for investigators engaged in cardiovascular disease research. However, our content is suitable for others with interest in the field and to other research contexts. Through 1-day courses held in different locations across the U.S., we delivered individual educational modules and related course materials. Our goal is to help prepare investigators and others to recognize and manage the social, ethical and legal issues that they may face while engaged in research. Our faculty are nationally renowned and experienced experts from different research, educational and health care organizations.

Course Summary. We offered on-site courses, and will soon offer online course materials, with the online course materials to be introduced in 2009. The course is titled "Social, Ethical and Legal Considerations for Cardiovascular Research." The onsite course was offered several times a year at different locations. Each on-site course consisted of up to six different modules. Our first course was offered in May 2006, and our last onsite course was held in May 2009. Topics, content and readings were developed based upon the priorities, interests and needs expressed by over 1000 researchers through a national survey. Continuing education credit was provided.

Rationale. Through our Program, investigators and other research professionals may obtain training  based upon their own expressed research ethics needs and interests. Clinical research is a dynamic, vast field of inquiry, and includes studies of medical, surgical, behavioral, genetic and social determinants or consequences of a host of health conditions. Engaging in clinical research may raise many ethical, legal and social issues. Previously however, researchers have had few opportunities to obtain ethics training that is tailored to their own needs and interests since most research ethics training is very generalized.
